A board portal solution is collaborative software that provides board members the ability to securely access board documents and collaborate with each other from anywhere in the world. This real-time publishing of board packets, agenda updates, surveys, and key performance indicators provides greater visibility into the business. A portal ties together a diverse group of busy individuals around an organization’s priorities.

Why Board Portals?

10 things your intranet portal team should understand. Seriously!
  1. There should be one AND ONLY ONE organizational portal. This may be obvious but is worth reiterating here.
  2. Your Senior Management team should be completely sold on the idea of an Intranet portal, as an ongoing commitment and not just the upfront commitment.
  3. Portal software is almost a commodity by now, so chose your vendor based on services, best practices, support etc.
  4. Successful portals should automate some workflows and improve some processes otherwise employee look right through another pretty application which does not do anything for them.
  5. Your portal should provide employees quick access to the information they need to become more effective and productive in their role.get their input.
  6. Portal should be built such that publishing is easy and not too permission heavy. You want people contributing, not shying away.
  7. Work with a vendor that has a track record of continued success. Successful portal implementation is like an art. You either have huge success or you create a ghost town.
  8. The portal should support "single sign-on"; that is, with a single user id and password each user can access most of the applications and data that she or he is allowed to use.
  9. Organizations should plan for integration with core systems and other existing software, even if it is a second phase.
  10. Portal landing page should be well discussed and should be flexible- one size does not fit all when it comes to the landing page.

We have settled in to our new space

We have made ourselves at home here in the basement of the Purdue Employees FCU Financial Mall. Cold, boring cubicles and offices have become great work spaces, and I would put our break room up against any company in the country! A 42" LCD flat screen complete with a Nintendo Wii and surround sound allow us to get away from our work, if only for a few moments. Comfy couches and a Sharper Image massage chair complete the room. All of this, plus a new casual dress code, free snacks, coffee and drinks make Passageways an even better place to work!

Did you know?

Passageways recently held an internal auction to benefit the charities involved with the Auction Module. Our crew of 23 staff members raised more the $425 during the three day event. We used the same Auction Module you can get for a “name your price” donation. Just think how much good your organization can do for your local charities using this terrific new module.

Using Documents within the Products and Services Module

When the Products and Services Module Property is set to the exact path where your product documents are located, it creates a direct link from the portal to the path.

How does this benefit you? You can bypass uploading documents to the Documents Repository. It is essentially creating a direct link from the portal to the path where your documents are stored.

The Products and Services Module contains a module property called, "path to documents." When your module administrator inputs the exact path as the direct location where your documents are stored, your Products and Services snapshot will link directly to those documents.

How do you set the path to documents?

You must have access to the Portal Tools. On the navigation tree, open Manage Modules - Modify Modules Properties and select Products and Services from the Module dropdown list, then select PathToDocuments from the Module Property dropdown list.

The format of the path should be formatted as [Drive]:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Passageways\ProductDocuments.

Once you have set this path, you should see the same folders and documents in your portal's Products and Services Document Repository.

You must have permission to access the Products and Services Module Document Repository. If you do, click on Module Administration on the navigation tree and open the Document Repository. This will be the same list of folders and documents that you will find in the actual path.

Can you add to the Document Repository?

Yes, you can add directly to the network path from here! Simply uploading from another drive or folder into the Document Repository will actually put the document into the path specified in Module Properties.
